FACT OF THE DAY as if you all did not know

FACT OF THE DAY

Today in 1320, Scotland re-affirms its independence by producing one of the most famous declarations of national independence - the Declaration of Arbroath. A stirring piece of writing, the document was sent to Pope John XXII and includes many well-known lines including the stirring: "It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
