Whisky distilleries use a lot of heat in their processes and normally that heat just gets lost in the atmosphere. But Pulteney Distillery in Wick in the far north of Scotland is already piping its waste heat to local homes and from October, Caithness General Hospital will be connected to the system - making it the first in the UK to become heated by a whisky distillery.The plant is already using an environmentally friendly biomass, wood-burning power source to provide the heat used in the distilling processes.
Hi Rab, Aye there is a lot of heat gaes up the lum and more use of this wasted energy should be done. The wee but and bens wid be rare and cosy in the Scottish winter and engourage the drinking of a wee dram or two. A win win situation dont you think?

On our recent visit to Scotland would you believe my wife and eaxh took a bottle of whisky back in our luggage as it is cheaper to buy whisky here in the USA. My wife took her Dalmore and my drop was Finlaggan. A private bottling of Lagavulin not available in Scotland under that name.
