FACT OF THE DAY Scottish author Irvine Welsh was born today in 1958. Welsh is best known for his first novel 'Trainspotting', which was an immediate success upon publication in 1993. Written mainly in a broad Scottish vernacular style, the book (which later became a hit film) tells the story of a connected group of young heroin users in 1980s Edinburgh and their various (mis)adventures around Scotland's capital city.
