Manchester United Football Club welcomed their new boss today in 1986, a certain Mr Alex Ferguson. Known as a tough, uncompromising and successful manager with the Scottish team Aberdeen (who had won eight domestic and two European trophies during his time in charge), United's owners were confident that Ferguson could bring back glory to a club with high expectations but little to show for it since the late 1960s. After a slow start, Ferguson indeed achieved everything expected of him and is, at time of writing, the most successful manager in English football history.
