A new digital Scottish Gaelic television channel has been announced by the BBC.  Apparently there is already some limited Gaelic television but this will take things to a new level.  There are those of course who question its worth, but I know there has been Welsh language television for about the last 40 years and in that time interest in the Welsh language has increased greatly.  While not drawing a direct link between the two, it certainly does no harm to have a language more readily available to a wider audience.
