Pioneering conservationist John Muir was born today in Dunbar, East Lothian, in 1838. Following emigration to the US, his interest in nature led to the creation of the Sequoia and Yosemite national parks. A prolific writer, his books included "My First Summer in the Sierra" and "Our National Parks", as well as "A Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf" and "The Yosemite". PS. I have three of his books and they are "top shelf' stuff, Regards Rab.
