New Publication - Seemingly from University of Glasgow

I this week's issue of Rampant Scotland, they announced a new publication called "The Bottle Imp" with several pages of electronic good stuff following.

I tried my best to contact them by e-mail to find out how to subscribe so I wouldn't miss an issue, but the e-mail address in their "Contact Us" section keeps getting rejected. I suppose I'll have to write them.

I thought the particular item was extremely interesting for "Downunders".

Here is the article:

Scotland the Wave

Before 180 of the world's top surfers arrived at Thurso beach in the north of Scotland for the second World Qualifying Series event, they had been competing in the warm sunshine at Copacabana Beach in Brazil. Even though they had to wear rubber wet suits, gloves and hoods for the cold conditions of the North Sea, the champion surfers said that the Thurso waves had been the best on the tour, allowing them to reach a high standard of performance. In some of the sessions, they experienced "stand-up barrels", meaning that they could stand upright as the wave barrels around them. They were reported to be back on the beach speechless - not because of the cold, but because they couldn't believe the quality of the waves. At the end of the O'Neill Highland Open, it was Australian Nathan Edge who won the final and the competition's prized trophy sword.

G'day Clyde, I saw that also that and tried to send a message, as this is their first newsletter they may be having teething troubles, I have a system whereby I get free international calls so I will give them a tingle and let you know, the site looks great and I am sure Dot and Jane will like it as well, i will send the URL on to them, see you in the soup, Rab.

PS they are only going to do 2/3 newsletters per year, however they will add more to the site as an ongoing thing, I think all the Scottish literature buffs will really dig it.

re the surfing in Scotland, we saw it here on the TV, mindblowing man, cloud nine stuff, I think I have a picture of one of the competitors, during the seventies two American lads made a film called The Endless Summer, they toured the world surfing and i am fairly sure they visited and surfed in the UK.
