Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell died today in 1879. One of the founding fathers of modern physics, Maxwell devised new equations and theories that opened up further discoveries in relativity and quantum engineering. He was also the first person to produce true colour photography. Today is also the traditional Guy Fawkes Night celebration in the UK. Bonfires are lit and fireworks set off to celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in which a group of Catholic conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and the Protestant King James VI.
