Welcome to the final Inside Track! November 9 2007 was a momentous occasion for Scotland, when Glasgow won the right to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
After years of passionate campaigning and almost 2 million pledges of support we crossed the finish line in first place. Read the crucial final presentation and watch the exclusive films, which showed the delegates our vision of a Glasgow Games.
At 12.42pm Scots heard the words they had longed to hear when Mike Fennell, President of the CGF, announced "The host city of the 2014 Commonwealth Games will be Glasgow". The Glasgow 2014 team in Sri Lanka exploded into rapturous celebrations, joined by thousands of people across Glasgow and Scotland. This has been a phenomenal experience, engaging school children, adults, politicians, sports clubs, businesses and councils across the country. A Glasgow Games will give athletes the opportunity to deliver the performance of their lives; spectators will enjoy the time of their lives. Our City and our country have won an amazing opportunity. We did it!
